This is a question most of us think when anyone mentions tan through swimwear. People instantly think 'how can swimwear tan through when it is made of fabric'?, how can the sun possibly penetrate and allow the person to tan? This was a question I had considered when I first started Volagor, I was intrigued and puzzled about how can any fabric allow the person to tan, as logic would tell you that fabric blocks any rays from making contact with the skin and allow tanning to happen.

However after much research and testing there are fabrics that allow tanning to happen and from these fabrics tan through swimwear and bathing suits are made. Meaning tan through bathing suits really do work. The exact science of how will be explained in the following paragraphs but once we discovered such fabric we knew we had to make swimwear from it.

The tan through fabrics in the market today all made up of thousands of micro holes and it is these holes that allow a pre determined amount of UVA through enough for tanning. However the fabric that Volagor use to make their bathing suits also stop the UVB from penetrating through which are the rays that are responsible for burning. Resulting in the most even tan that does not require sun cream and reduces the appearance of tan lines (under the fabric).

Now results differ dependent on your skin type, the amount of time you are exposed in the sun and if you use the product correctly. You have to wear the bathing suit for a prolonged amount of time and at the beginning of the holiday, ideally the fabric should also be flush against the skin. Please also note to get best results skin should tan without burning and depends on your skin tone and type.

Volagor swimwear is not see through when worn. However, the fabric is quite thin due to the tiny holes in the fabric which allow the sun to pass through the fabric and allow you to tan, and from person to person the level of transparency may vary. Those concerned about modesty should choose busier patterns, which help trick the eye and make the fabric more opaque. The more solid the print, the more likely it is to be semi-sheer, which is the reason why the only solid color we offer for our swimwear is black. For shirts, the least sheer colors will be those in the middle of the color spectrum (black and white will be the most easy to see through).

Yes, of course! That’s what its meant to do. The fabric has been tested both in chlorine and salt water and is therefore not affected. However it is important to rinse your bikini after use as to extend its longevity and so it prevents quick fading.

Our swimwear has liners in the swimwear bottoms where necessary. But the remaining part of the bikini is single lined as to allow for the tan-through effect.

They will tan through the straps at a slower rate as they are double lined. We recommend you move your straps from time to time to prevent any lines from developing.

That is entirely up to the person using the product. We do recommend using sun cream at all times. Although, our bikinis are parallel to wearing SPF 8 – 15.

Yes, but depending on the type of lamps used and their placement, the SPF level of the fabric can range from 2 to 20. A pretty wide range! So please be sure to limit your initial exposure to determine what your results will be with each particular tanning device.

Men, in particular, have often shed away from tan through shorts because they do not want something so tight, and this may provide the answer.
